Step-by-Step Instructions

Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). In a large pan over medium-high heat, cook the beef until browned, breaking it up into small pieces as it cooks. Remove the browned beef from the pan and set it aside.

Add the onion and garlic to the pan and cook until the onion is translucent. Add the mushroom and cook until it's softened.

Add the flour to the pan and cook for 1-2 minutes, stirring constantly. Gradually add the Guinness stout, whisking continuously to avoid lumps. Bring the mixture to a boil and then reduce the heat to a simmer.

Return the browned beef to the pan and stir to combine. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Transfer the mixture to a 9x13 inch baking dish.

Roll out the puff pastry on a floured surface to a thickness of about 1/8 inch. Place the pastry over the filling and trim the edges to fit. Crimp the edges to seal the pie.

Cut a few slits in the top of the pie to allow steam to escape. Brush the pastry with a little bit of water and sprinkle with a pinch of salt.
